texture analysis of teen wolf
Cast: stiles, Scott, Lydia Liam Alison)
Teen wolf is a American TV drama the scene that I am going to
be focusing on is episode 7 season 1 and in that scene it’s mostly based on
teenagers trapped in a high school while they face a werewolf.
The scene that I am going to start with is at 24.39 and at
the start of the scene it has stiles talking to all the other cast, in this
point you can notice shot reverse shot being use as it helps to show the
conversation between them also helps to know how deep the conversation is
between the characters are. Over the shoulder shot is also being used to give a
scenes of surrounding and also helps to look at the person expression however
they also use wide shots to then capture multiple people face expression the reason
for this is as a viewer to get and understanding what emotion is going through
and tells us a bit about the atmosphere and that’s where they use diegetic
sound to then help create more suspense.
The camera the focuses on the props this then interpret either
something is going to go wrong or its going to be an important part.it is then followed by non-diegetic sound when he breaks that
glass to then get the props later on the music sound starts to soften the reason for this is to also to set the
mood. 25.17s you then see the reason for
why the camera focuses on the prop .Once that scene is done the sound then dies
down and becomes more.
At this point the camera focuses more on head shot and middle
shot, shot revers shot and wide shot. The wide shot is for everyone to see the
position and body structure ,the shoulder shot is also to get the face
expression in detail of the character and this then happens for both of the
characters to then get the sense of what they are both feeling
Later on a soundtrack is played and its in wide shot and they
edited the walk that scott does to then make it more dramatic and effective and
creates suspense
Good start - you have used loads of terminology especially with camera. Remember this is a textual analysis so you need to be specific - what prop? Why was the close up of that prop important - what was it trying to communicate? (Denotation & connotation)
